Collegiate Crescent Campus, Sheffield

Project: Main Building, Collegiate Crescent
Client: Sheffield Hallam University
Location: Sheffield

Main Building is a Grade II Listed building within Sheffield Hallam University's Collegiate Campus.  The building dates back originally to 1836 and was originally a school with a large central chapel.  The building has been altered repeatedly over the years with the original rooms being subdivided and original features lost.

Sheffield Hallam University asked Self Architects to design a total refurbishment to provide a set of flexible teaching rooms and lecture theatres of various sizes, useable by different departments of the University.

Existing partitions and alterations have been stripped away to provide larger spaces.  Four-tiered lecture theatres have been incorporated.  The building has been made accessible for all students.

Conservation was a key issue and all new work was detailed to the approval of the Planning Conservation Officer.
