Mansion Place

Nottingham

Completed: January, 1970

Service: Architecture

Sector: Student Living

Client: The Mansion Group

Size: 196 Beds

Mansion Place has been fully reconfigured by Self from an existing student block of 122 cluster beds with no en suites to 142 beds, of which the majority are en suite beds and with 20 converted to studios. A new 7 storey wing at the rear provides 54 further studios.

The increase in units in the existing building was created by utilising unused amenity and back of house space, as well as reconfiguring the existing floor plates. The new wing at the rear replaced a poorly built 2 storey addition, to fully maximise the site. The façade of the new block follows the existing building in style. All the existing building’s interiors including the bedrooms were fully refurbished to match the high standard of the new build element.

Maximising Existing Student Accommodation

Mansion Place joins several Self student housing projects, which demonstrate our stills in maximising an existing student block, by reconfiguring the accommodation to generate more beds, as well as extending the buildings to add additional accommodation. To demonstrate the GIA on Mansion Place increased by 45%, but the number of beds increased from 122 beds to 196, a 60% increase and 54% are now studios, where previously there were no studios.
