OBC - Theatres and Critical Care

Kings Mill Hospital, Mansfield

Completed: January, 1970

Service: Architecture

Sector: Healthcare

Client: Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Sherwood Forest Hospitals has submitted a bid for capital funding via the Nottinghamshire Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP) for national funding, which includes the redevelopment of both the theatres and critical care unit within the hospital.

Self is developing a number of options as part of the Outline Business Case. We have created a generic option which provides a new build solution over two floors. The upper floor allows for the critical care unit to have access to a rooftop deck for patients to go outside.

What good looks like!

During the development of the options we have created a “What good looks like” document to inform the brief and to assist the team in deciding what elements they want to incorporate into the project.

This includes important spaces such as the patient waiting areas, corridors, relative areas, operating theatres etc.

Our aim in the production of this document has been to capture the “look and feel” of the building and to ensure this approach moves forward into the next design stage.
